Katie Corbin - Cary
LCMHC-A
I grew up in north Alabama and graduated from Auburn University in 2020 with degrees in Psychology and Human Development & Family Studies. I worked with university freshman programming for a year before obtaining my Masters of Counseling from the University of Tennessee. My internships focused on working with college students in distress at UTK and families in the community.Â
I am currently pursuing full licensure as a Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) and certification as a Registered Play Therapist (RPT). In previous experience, I've served as a school-based counselor in Hillsborough elementary schools, supporting children's unique needs. My background also includes working with families of children with Autism, therapeutic preschool settings, and a group private practice with diverse clientele. While at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, I focused on suicide prevention and crisis stabilization. Through these various experiences, I've fostered inclusive spaces for individuals and families to find deeper connections. Passionate about helping children, families, college students, and adults, I'm dedicated to providing compassionate care to all.

I specialize in working with children, employing play therapy techniques and startegies as a primary modality. I view my clients as the experts of their own stories and believe in their capacity for growth and self-understanding. Embracing a strengths-based perspective, I prioritize fostering a robust therapeutic relationship with each client. This means that clients have the opportunity to provide feedback on our counseling process and express how it resonates with them. They are encouraged to ask questions about our sessions, goals, or strategies at any point. I find great fulfillment in delving into clients’ experiences while also equipping them with practical skills to navigate their counseling journey and achieve their goals.
I hold a relational-cultural theoretical orientation with an emphasis on integrating different aspects of wellness. I add in interventions from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Person-Centered, and Adlerian therapy. I am LGBTQ+ affirming and seek to understand client’s world from their perspective.Â
