Emily Osborn - Fuquay-Varina
Intern
A native New Yorker, I have lived in Fuquay Varina since 2020 and think NC is one of the most beautiful places. I have a background in children’s publishing and teaching, as well as advocating for marginalized populations, all of which led me toward the world of counseling. Entering the counseling profession was a deeply personal and transformative journey for me, driven by a combination of experiences, values, and aspirations. I love working with children of all ages, and a special place in my heart for those from the adoption constellation. I am currently an intern working toward my master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Appalachian State University. As a master’s student, I am currently under supervision of faculty at Appalachian State University as well as a licensed mental health professional at my current place of Willow Creek Counseling. Upon graduation, I will meet the educational requirements to pursue licensure by the North Carolina Board of Clinical Mental Health Counselors, as well as the Expressive Arts Certificate from the International Expressive Arts Therapy Association ® and Registered Play Therapist ® certification from the Association for Play Therapy.
I am also qualified to treat the following mental health conditions:Â
Trauma and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)
Anxiety and adjustment disorders
Depression and other mood disorders
Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
Child development
Shame
Building resilience
Grief/loss
In addition, I am also able to help individuals understand and cope with the following issues:
Co-regulation and emotional regulation
Identity exploration/struggles
Adoption and Foster Care constellation issues
Bullying
Behavior problems
Child(ren) coping with transitions
Self-esteem
Stress
I will work with you using a person-centered and strengths-based approach, because I respect that you are the expert on your own life. My focus is on building a strong, supportive relationship to help you on your healing journey. I’m confident that you have the strength and potential to overcome your challenges, and I’ll assist you in discovering this potential and developing the skills you need to achieve your goals. We may use methods like Expressive Arts Therapy, Sandplay, or Play Therapy to support your progress. My aim is to create a safe, understanding, and non-judgmental space where you can explore your feelings, learn coping strategies, and work towards your personal and emotional goals.
