Sara Baker

MSW, LCSWA

Growing up, my mom brought me to numerous Appalachian State University football games. My love for The Mountaineers led me to complete my Bachelor of Social Work at Appalachian State. In Boone, I dedicated myself to supporting adults experiencing intimate partner violence, providing them with empowerment, support, and advocacy to navigate through challenging situations. Concurrently, I worked closely with children on the Autism Spectrum, offering parents invaluable education and guidance to facilitate effective support at home.Transitioning to The Triangle, I pursued my Master of Social Work at UNC-Chapel Hill, a pivotal step in my journey. During this time, I immersed myself in working with at-risk families, offering both individual and family counseling sessions. My focus was on nurturing parents through their personal healing journeys while concurrently equipping them with the skills, activities, and resources necessary to support their children. My work with adults emphasizes the importance of aiding in the navigation of life's transitions and stressors and utilizing psychoeducational skills aimed at fostering strong connections between family members.

I have extensive experience treating the following mental health conditions:

  • Trauma and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)

  • Anxiety and adjustment disorders

  • Depression and other mood disorders

  • Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder

In addition, I am also able to help individuals understand and cope with the following issues:

  • Stress management

  • Grief and loss

  • Parent coaching (Infancy through young adulthood)

  • Emotional regulation

As a therapist, my mission is to empower and support adults in aligning their decisions with their unique goals and needs. My approach centers around creating a safe and non-judgmental space for clients to explore and process both past and present challenges. Through collaboration, I strive to help individuals identify areas for growth and change, supporting them in taking meaningful steps toward a more fulfilling life.
