Shaina Scolnick

LCMHCA

I was born in North Carolina, spent a few years in Ohio during my childhood, and eventually returned to NC for good. I completed my Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a concentration in Human Services and a Studio Art minor. I then received my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Appalachian State University, where I also earned a graduate certificate in Expressive Arts.

My experience in private practice involves working with both adolescents and adults (ranging from ages 18 to 75). I am drawn to the collaborative nature of therapy and feel honored to be invited into my clients' worlds as they navigate life's challenges.

Areas of Focus

  • Children & Teens: I approach the therapeutic process with children by taking a non-directive approach, using expressive arts and play therapy modalities to assist in processing emotions. When working with teens, I feel it's important to approach by meeting them where they are - however how they are showing up in our time together. I find the value in creating a strong therapeutic relationship in order to find the way forward that works best for the teen/child.

  • Adults: Create a few sentences about your approach with children/teens.  Make this easy for parents and non professionals to understand.

  • Expressive Arts:

  • Other areas (EMDR, SSP, Perinatal:  Adults:

Therapeutic Approach

I strive to create a safe, open environment where you are free to share your thoughts honestly and feel supported through a wide range of emotions. My clinical approach is collaborative and draws from several evidence-based and creative modalities:

  • Expressive Arts Therapy (EXA)

  • Person-Centered Therapy

  • Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT)

  • Feminist Theory

I am eager to walk by your side during this process and help you build the tools needed for lasting growth.
