Sara Baker
LCSWA
Growing up, my mom and I would visit Appalachian State University to see the Mountaineers. The love she and I shared for Boone led me to complete my Bachelor of Social Work at Appalachian State. While obtaining my undergraduate, I gained diverse experience working with youth in summer camps, afterschool programs, while also providing personalized therapy to children on the Autism Spectrum. I was an intern at Oasis inc., where I dedicated myself to supporting adults experience intimate partner and sexual violence through education, outreach, and advocacy. Â
I earned my Master of Social Work from UNC-Chapel Hill, where I supported at-risk children and families through Family Centered Treatment. My work centered on preventing out-of-home placement by providing parents and their children skills to promote and maintain change.Â
I am currently pursuing licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and a certification as a Registered Play Therapist (RPT)
Areas of Focus
Children & Teens:Â My approach with children and teens focuses on helping them express their emotions and build confidence in ways that feel natural and authentic to who they are. We work together on challenges related to school, relationships, and emotion regulation. I value parent involvement, as working together helps children feel supported and helps parents feel more confident in supporting their child.
Adults:Â I work with adults to process past and present experiences that have shaped who they are today. Together, we focus on understanding and expressing emotions, working through self-doubt and negative thought patterns, and building confidence. I also offer parent support to help caregivers feel more supported and confident in supporting their child.
Safe and Sound: A listening therapy that uses specially filtered music to help calm the nervous system and interrupt the fight-or-flight response, promoting emotional regulation, stronger connections, and an increased sense of safety.
