Katie Corbin
LCMHCA
I grew up in north Alabama and graduated from Auburn University in 2020 with degrees in Psychology and Human Development & Family Studies and from the University of Tennessee in 2023 with my Masters of Counseling.
I am currently pursuing licensure as a Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) and Registered Play Therapist (RPT). Previously, I worked as a school-based counselor in Hillsborough elementary schools and with young adults in the university setting. My background also includes working with families of children with Autism and ADHD, parents, suicide prevention, and crisis stabilization. I foster inclusive spaces for individuals and families to find deeper connections with each other and be equipped with the strategies they need to thrive.Â
I love to support parents/caregivers of teens and children to understand their child’s developmental stage, build healthy boundaries, manage behavior, and delight in each other.Â
Areas of Focus
Children & Teens:Â To support the family overall, I work with parents alongside children/teens to understand each other and move toward optimal wellbeing. Depending on their age, we use art, sandtray, talk therapy, and play therapy in session.
Adults:Â I support adults to understand their own stories and develop their strengths. I use a blend of psychoeducation, expressive therapies, and open ended conversation to help adults reach their goals.Â
Clinical Expertise & Support
I am qualified to treat a variety of mental health conditions and help individuals navigate complex life challenges, including:
Mental Health Conditions: Anxiety and adjustment disorders, Depression, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and relationship stress.
Crisis & Trauma: Suicidal ideation, crisis stabilization, trauma, and grief/loss.
Family & Parenting: Conflict resolution, familial adjustments, parent coaching, school anxiety, and grief/loss.
Identity & Growth: LGBTQ+ identity exploration (affirming), self-acceptance, stress management, career adjustments, and identity struggles.
Behavioral & Emotional Support: Emotion regulation, school support, conduct/behavior problems, and social skills development.
Therapeutic Approach
I utilize several evidence-based modalities to help you reach your personal goals:
Person-Centered Therapy
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Strengths-Based Therapy
Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT)Â (for younger children)
Adlerian Therapy
I view my clients as the experts of their own stories and believe in their innate capacity for growth and self-understanding. My approach is grounded in a relational-cultural theoretical orientation with a strong emphasis on integrating all aspects of wellness. I utilize a strengths-based perspective and prioritize a robust therapeutic relationship where feedback and questions are always encouraged.Â
