Casidee Sego
LMFTA
I am a trauma-informed Marriage and Family Therapy Associate dedicated to providing systemic, evidence-based care to individuals, couples, and families. I hold a Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy from East Carolina University and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Utah State University.
My clinical training includes providing systemic therapy, couple therapy, individual therapy, and EMDR therapy at the East Carolina University MFT Clinic, alongside crisis intervention and family therapy at the ECU Health Inpatient Rehabilitation Center. My unique background combines rigorous mental health research into empathy and positive affect with hands-on clinical and wellness experience
"The past can hurt. But the way I see it, you can either run from it or learn from it."Â
— Rafiki, The Lion King
My philosophy for counseling is built on the belief that therapy should be an authentic, living experience. I don't look at you in a textbook vacuum; I honor your unique story and look at the deep emotional world, family dynamics, and environments that shape who you are.
Past hurts and old family patterns can leave us feeling stuck, but therapy is a space where we can safely face those experiences rather than running from them. I love meeting you exactly where you are and creatively weaving your personal passions, hobbies, and strengths into our sessions. By connecting our work to what already makes you feel alive, we can process the painful parts of your past, access your core emotions, and break through generational cycles to build genuine relational empathy and healing together.
Areas of Focus
Teens: Being a teenager means navigating a whirlwind of intense, confusing emotions. My approach is all about meeting teens right where they are—without judgment. I like to tune into what they love (whether it’s music, sports, art, or gaming) and use those passions as a bridge to help them understand their feelings, build inner confidence, and communicate better with their parents.
Adults:Â When life brings sudden transitions, medical stress, or overwhelming anxiety, it is easy to feel disconnected from yourself. I offer a warm, safe space to slow down and check in with your emotional heart. Together, we will honor the coping strategies that got you this far, while gently transforming unhelpful emotional habits into a greater sense of peace and personal worth.
Couples:Â Relationships thrive when we move past surface-level arguments and look at the real emotions hiding underneath. I help couples look at how they interact in the present moment, using experiential techniques to foster deep vulnerability, heal past hurts, and build a lasting foundation of mutual empathy and warmth.
EMDR:Â When traumatic memories get stuck in the mind and body, they continue to trigger intense emotional pain in the present. Using my EMDR training, I meet you at a pace that feels safe, helping your brain process and release the emotional weight of past events so you can feel grounded and free again.
Trauma/PTSD:Â Trauma changes how we feel safe in our own skin. Taking a deeply trauma-informed approach, I hold space for your rawest emotions and vulnerabilities. We work side-by-side to gently move through crisis and painful memories, transforming fear and survival patterns into a renewed sense of security and vitality.
Infidelity / Couples:Â Betrayal brings a tidal wave of grief, anger, and confusion. I provide a compassionate, neutral space to help couples safely voice and process these intense emotions. By exploring the deeper dynamics of the relationship, I guide partners through the difficult process of healing, helping them decide how to move forward and rebuild genuine emotional trust.
